# Third Grade

April 5-8

Social Studies projects are due on Friday. There will be no social studies homework or test this week.

We are reviewing Mean, Median, Mode, and Range this week.

Mean=Average; Add all the numbers and divide by the number of numbers (i.e. the mean of of 1,2,3,4,5 is 1+2+3+4+5=15: 15 divided by 5 (the number of numbers) = 3. the mean is 3). If a data set repeats a number, then repeat the number such as 2,3,3,3,3,4 would be 2+3+3+3+3+4=18. 18 divided by 6=3.

Median=Middle; Write out the numbers, pick the one in the middle (i.e. 1,2,3 the median is 2. If the middle falls between two numbers, find the average of the two numbers (add them together and divide by two)).

Mode=Most; When you write out all of the numbers of a data set, which number appears the most (i.e. 1,2,2,3,3,3,4; The number 3 appears 3 times, while the number two appears twice and the numbers 1 and 4 appear only once. The mode would be 3).

Range=The highest number in a data set minus the lowest number (i.e. 1,2,2,3,3,3,4: the range would be 4-1=3. The range is 3. In the data set 5,10,15,100: The range would be 100-5=95. The range is 95).

We will have a math test on Friday on Chapter 7.
