About Mrs. Alexander

Mrs. Mary Alexander serves as the Art and Computer Teacher at St. Catherine Catholic School. A Highlands County resident for more than 20 years, she is a wife and the mother of two daughters—one an adult and one in high school. Her family enjoys gardening, board games, swimming, music, learning about essential oils, studying God’s word, camping, and spending time with their 10-year-old dachshund, Abby.

Passionate about the arts, Mrs. Alexander loves visiting theaters, museums, and botanical gardens, and she captures many of these experiences through photography. She holds two master’s degrees and one bachelor’s degree, most recently earning a Master of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Arts in Medicine from the University of Florida in December 2018.

Her goal as a teacher is to help students focus on God through art, music, prayer, and technology. She integrates tools such as the Hallow app into her classes to give students moments of reflection and minimize distractions, fostering an environment where creativity and faith come together.

In the Classroom

Mrs. Alexander encourages every student to embrace creativity while building practical skills in both art and technology.

  • Technology: Grades 3–7 are currently learning Microsoft Word and formatting skills, while younger students in K–2 are practicing logging into Clever and LMS, and exploring Code.org. Robotics projects are also introduced in the early grades.

  • Art: Students in K–7 are studying renowned artists such as Picasso, Van Gogh, Kandinsky, and Dalí while creating their own masterpieces inspired by famous works. Projects range from Sugar Skulls to landscapes, with each student working toward a finished piece over several weeks.

  • 8th Grade Project: The 8th grade class is designing a large-scale group mural titled “Emerge with Joy.” The mosaic, created from paper, is currently in the sketching and color-matching phase and will be displayed on the school’s main bulletin board.

Mrs. Alexander believes each child learns differently and is dedicated to helping all students grow academically, artistically, and spiritually.
